Indian fashion

Indian fashion is not totally different from global fashion. In fact, Indian fashion has a greater “contextual” nature and local-commodity nature that global fashion has,” said Arun Sirdeshmukh, Managing Director, IMG Reliance. “While global fashion is characterised by its relatively unorganised and highly competitive market, Indian fashion has the benefit of decades of traditional knowledge that remains a highly valuable asset for designers. Indian fashion, therefore, is arguably one of the most dynamic and fast-moving industries in the world today.” The show included internationally known Indian designers like Nachiket Barve, Anamika Khanna, Manish Malhotra, Kunal Rawal, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Rina Dhaka, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Rahul Mishra, Ashish N Soni, Anupama Dayal, Sandeep Khosla, among others. “Athleisure” and street-style trends were an integral part of the Lakmé Fashion Week Summer Resort 2017 collection, according to Sandeep Khosla, one of the showstoppers. “Overall, we have seen a surge in demands for everything athleisure. It’s a very exciting trend. We have seen a lot of it over the last two seasons in terms of garments for men and women and more so in terms of accessories like sneakers and wearables.” Also read: Lakmé Fashion Week Summer Resort 2017: Rina Dhaka takes a leaf out of Anamika Khanna’s book Additionally, designer Rina Dhaka, who presented “Untouched” collection, said she has witnessed a large demand for organic and vegan-friendly fabrics. “We have seen a rise in demand for fabrics like organic cotton, bamboo, all natural and viscose. We have also seen a rise in the demand for vegan-friendly fabrics. In addition, there has been a rise in the demand for hand-painted saris and hand-stitched clothing,” said Dhaka.
